The gamma spectra of 3 radioactive sources (137Cs, 60Co and 22Na) are to be recorded with a pulse height analyzer using NaI and plastic scintillators, which are cemented one after the other to a photomultiplier. This multi-channel analyzer consists of an analog digital converter (ADC) on a plug-in card for operation in a computer (PC) and the appropriate software. The spectra can be processed on the computer and printed out numerically and graphically. The properties of the amplifiers are examined by oscillography and then the high voltage and linear amplifiers are set appropriately. An energy calibration is carried out for each of the two scintillators and the calibration line is determined graphically and with the help of linear regression. In addition, the energy resolution ΔE/E as a function of the energy E for the NaI and for the plastic scintillator should be determined from the measurement and protocol data and the light yields of the two scintillators should be estimated. For the 137Cs preparation, the activity A is to be determined from the count rate dN/dt in the photopeak using the efficiency of the NaI detector and the fraction of the solid angle detected by the detector (the solid angle ratio) Ω/4π. The transition probability of the γ quanta emitted per decay must be taken into account. The background has to be subtracted from the measured count rates. 302 Gamma-Spektroskopie
